01 / Overview
What are the different pathways?
An eye assessment can inform a prescription and identify questions needing further investigation. Choosing frames, making lenses and checking their fit are separate practical steps. NHS information distinguishes eye examinations from dispensing and fitting glasses; its professional-role descriptions are UK-specific and do not establish Chinese licensing rules. NHS information about opticians.
LASIK reshapes the cornea to change how it focuses light. It is surgery and requires an assessment of risks, benefits and alternatives. This page does not apply LASIK instructions to every laser procedure or lens operation. FDA explanation of LASIK.
02 / Timing & visits
How many days in Shanghai, and how many appointments?
Glasses: No verified Shanghai-wide same-day or multi-day delivery time is available here. Ask the dispenser for the lens order, collection and fitting schedule, including what happens if an adjustment is needed.
Surgery: No generic short-stay plan is verified. FDA LASIK guidance calls for review within 24–48 hours after surgery and regular follow-up for at least the first six months. That is follow-up guidance, not permission to depart after the first review. The Shanghai surgeon must specify the actual pathway. FDA LASIK preparation and follow-up.
Trips: Ask which reviews must be with the operating team and whether any later review elsewhere would be clinically acceptable. Do not infer one appointment or one trip from the short duration of a procedure.
03 / Preparation
What should I prepare?
Ask which previous prescriptions or eye records are relevant. Before a surgical assessment, request the team's instructions about contact lenses and medicines; preparation depends on the intended evaluation and procedure. Obtain a written follow-up and urgent-contact plan rather than arranging travel around an advertised operation time.
04 / Costs
How should I understand the cost?
For glasses, clarify the examination, frames, exact lens specification, fitting, adjustments and remakes. For surgery, ask whether the estimate concerns one or both eyes, the exact procedure, assessment, medicines and follow-up. No optical or surgical price has been verified for this project.
05 / Beyond the appointment
Could I explore Shanghai as well?
A museum or Shanghai's heritage architecture could be ideas for a separate part of the trip. After surgery, activities must fit the surgeon's instructions. Do not plan swimming, strenuous excursions or a night-time sightseeing schedule simply because a first review has taken place. This is not a recovery itinerary. Shanghai heritage inspiration.
06 / Risks & onward travel
Risks, travel and points to clarify
FDA patient guidance describes issues such as dry eyes, glare, haloes and fluctuating vision after LASIK. Ask about the risks relevant to the proposed method and the route for urgent assessment if symptoms worsen. No universal post-laser flying interval is established here. Other eye operations have different restrictions; air-travel advice for an operation involving intraocular gas must not be transferred to LASIK or vice versa. 07 / Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I collect glasses on the day of the eye test?
No delivery promise is verified here. Ask about the exact lenses, manufacturing, fitting and any adjustment before assuming a collection date.
Can I decide on laser surgery before an examination?
The eye surgeon must assess suitability and discuss alternatives and risks. This project cannot select or recommend a procedure.
Does a 24–48-hour LASIK review mean I can leave after two days?
No. The FDA's early-review guidance is not travel clearance or a total-stay recommendation. Follow the operating surgeon's plan for further review.
Can I have follow-up at home?
Ask the operating team whether a specific shared-care arrangement is appropriate and who will be responsible. This project has not arranged one.
When can I fly after eye surgery?
The answer depends on the actual operation and your recovery. Ask the surgeon and airline; this page does not provide a universal interval or apply intraocular-gas advice to all eye procedures.
